Dour Festival exists since 1989. The festival is known as “European Alternative Music Event”. One of the nicknames of the festival is “Little Festival of Alternative Music and Love”, of which “little” refers to the small-scale feeling at the festival. We will talk about “love” later. In this blog we tell you why Dour should be on your festival agenda this year!
With over 180,000 visitors spread over 5 days is Dour one of the biggest outdoor festival in the Benelux, after Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter. So book your seat on the Maximal Trips bus trip to Dour festival on time! The lineup consists of around 250 artists, spread over 9 stages: more than enough to experience! But what can you expect of this festival?
The diversity in the lineup is typical for Dour. Expect real headliners, but also be surprised by new talent or music you have never heard before. Much heard is the statement: “No names, but enjoy good music.” Secretly, there are several “names” on the lineup, but less than maybe somewhere else in Europe.
Dour is refreshing, this is how we could summarize it. Because if you go for golden oldies like Mr Oizo and Cypress Hill, techno heroes like Amelie Lens, Mano Le Tough and I Hate Models or enjoy metal, hardcore or punk… Dour has it all! Check our blog to stay updateed about the lineup of Dour 2023.
Most visitors of Dour festival will have this memory: Dour is dirty. Very dirty. But in a good, Dour type of way. And what is dirty anyway? In the case of Dour it means: a lot of mud. When it rains, at least. When it is dry and sunny, you can expect a lot of dusty people.
The good news is getting used to your new hygiene standards does not take much time. Only when you get home to your white tiled bathroom you realize what 5 days of Dour have done to you. And you were thinking that you got a nice tan at the camping.
To stay clean, you can choose a VIP ticket, but the only difference is that the toilets and showers are closer to your tent. But you are definitely not going to wash yourself more often. Nobody has time for that and you will get dirty anyways.
The relaxed vibes at Dour is possibly the biggest reason why Dour Festival is so popular. For some reason, Dour is a walhalla of friendliness each year, even though many different types of people walk around at the festival area: from 16 to 46 years old and from hippie to gym fanatic. And everything in between.
At Dour, age and origin are not important. Those differences are usually the cause of many interesting conversations. Diversity is embraced by everyone, wherever you are. If you speak French, German, English or a mix of all those: meeting new people is key at Dour.
Another benefit is that the barkeepers at Dour are just like that. If you get your beer quickly or not, they are always nice and kind. This also counts for the security.
Looking at people is a fun activity at Dour. Thanks to the lineup, because that diversity attracts a lot of diverse people.
The amount of electronic music at Dour increases each year, just like many European festivals. But, fans of alternative music, do not be disappointed! There are 9 stages with over 250 artists in hip-hop, drum ‘n bass, punk, dubstep, indie-rock or reggae. Especially drum ‘n bass and dubsteb are famous in Belgium, expect to be blown away at these stages.
The fun part is that you can be present at all artists you would like. The schedule could have breaks of an our, so your favourite artists do not perform at the same time. No stress for choosing where to go next: another reason why Dour is a must-do. There are many more tips for Dour.
