Tip #1 The best camping spot
Timing is everything when it comes to getting the best camping spot. The campsite opens on Thursday afternoon at 13:00. You’ll find the best spots in the front, if you ask us. So make sure you run to Camping 1LOVE. You’ll be close to the dixis (don’t set up your tent right next to them, of course!), there are trees to make sure your tent doesn’t turn into a sauna and last but not least: close to the lake! Don’t forget your inflatable crocodile: perfect to relax on the lake and in front of your tent.
Take the Maximal Trips bus to Melt and check if you’re the first to arrive at the campsite and to be sure of the best camping spots!
Tip #2 Pre-party
Very important in our list of tips for Melt Festival: be on time for the pre-party! Get ready for the pre-party (read: the first beer can be opened). The lineup for the pre-party gets better every year, but the real party is celebrated on Thursday at the campsite itself. Work together to set up the last tent and enjoy the sound system of your neighbours; highly recommended!
Tip #3 Supermarkets
In the middle of the camping area you will find all kinds of handy shops. You can buy useful camping equipment such as folding chairs, air beds and tents here. Check out the popular camping liquor store, where you can get your cold half litre for just €1.50. Secretly we have 24 Melt Festival bottle tips here, because you better get a whole crate and make yourself king of the camping by giving cold beers to your thirsty friends.
Extra tip: You can find the Aldi, Lidl, REWE and Penny supermarkets in around 5 km from the campsite. There is always someone you can ride with and you can make some new friends! It can be crowded, so go on Thursday if the festival hasn’t started yet.
This is how you make the most of your camping spot!
Tip #4: Fresh and clean
The sanitary facilities at Melt are quite well arranged for a festival. Of course there are the well known Dixi’s, which you can best use before 12 in the morning when they have just been cleaned. At the festival you’ll find official toilet blocks, just like in the middle of the camping site: check out the large blocks with showers and real porcelain toilets.
It is often very busy at the showers during the day. Waiting in line for the showers can be quite fun, but we think you’d rather be lying with your friends in front of your tent, drinking your beer or floating in the lake. The right time to shower is in the evening before you go to the festival (medium crowded) or at night when you’re back (very quiet)
Tip #5: Baby wipes
Perhaps the best life hack for multi-day festivals: Baby wipes, baby wipes and more baby wipes! To shower or not to shower: you get dirty anyway! So you might as well just spend all your time partying and chilling 😉 But: everyone wants a clean skin. So make sure you bring this must-have!
Extra tip: go for the chamomile edition!
Not afraid to get a bit dirty.
Tip #6: Melt app
Although you’re probably not online this weekend, it’s still useful to always have the map and timetable with you: information is key! Download the Melt app before the festival starts. Download it here: Melt app for Apple.
Extra tip: Bring a power bank to charge your phone in case of an emergency, or if you want to show your friends back home how cool Melt is! Or rent a battery charger at the campsite stores.
Tip #7: Food and drinks at Melt
Water is going to be your best friend in the sun, but always ask explicitly for water without bubbles: “Wasser ohne Gas“! The Germans like to add some gas, but you probably prefer flat water. Recognizable by the blue bottle, so refuse green bottles. Empty cap bottles are allowed at the festival area, you can refill them free of charge and unlimited.
We are not allowed to give tips for smuggling alcohol, but bring 1.5 litre Tetra drink cartons. These are allowed on the festival grounds, if they have not yet been opened. However, you won’t be the first to make a hole in the carton, drink the juice out of it and replace it with some kind of alcohol. Duck tape it, and make a nice shoulder bag of it. Melt’s worst-kept secret…
Extra tip: Need some extra energy? There are two places where you can get really good coffee: at the beginning of the campsite on the terrace and on the festival site, a little after half on your left! This search is definitely worth it 😉
Tip #8: Sleepless Floor
If you ask us, it’s definitely the hottest stage of the festival! When you lose your friends on the festival grounds, you will always find them again in this delicious sandpit of happiness. This is where the best music is played non-stop. You dance the night away in the early morning hours and you meet the best people here. This feels like coming home.
Extra tip: Go to the festival area before 17:00 or after 21:00 and avoid a long queues.
Dance all day and all night!
Tip #9: Good shoes
A large part of the festival site at Melt consists of concrete. That has two advantages. When it rains: no mud pools. When it’s sunny: it stays nice and warm in the evening. It’s not huge, but of course you will walk a lot. If only because you’ve lost your friends. So forget about fashion and put on footwear you can wear for a long time. An hour or 12 at least.
Extra tip: bring flip-flops! Useful for when you go showering, when you go to the lake or when you have to go to the toilet at night. You don’t want to go to the dixi barefoot. The Melt checklist will help you pack.
Tip #10: Rent a locker
You might head towards the festival site when the sun is at its highest, but in the evening it can cool down quite a bit. Anticipate this, so you don’t have to go all the way back to your tent at night for that warm sweater. Rent a locker for warm clothes or a bottle of vodka in the front on your left. Empty your locker before 03.00 a.m. at night, otherwise you won’t be able to get back in until the next day!
Tip #11: Money at Melt
The last one of our tips for Melt Festival: money! Waiting in line for the ATM is not nice. Be sure to prepare for the last day, when ATMs are often empty or you are waiting in an extremely long line. Make sure you withdraw enough money for a few days.
At Melt they love Pfand. These are plastic tokens, which are twice as thick and large as a euro coin. You get them for example when you order beer and hand in your cup. This way we keep the area clean, is the idea. Before you know it, you’ll have a lot of these plastic tokens: pfand for the toilet, for the shower, for your drinks… They drive you crazy, but they are worth money.
Extra tip: Bring a fanny pack for your Pfand coins. Or put them in an empty cigarette packet. In any case, arrange something to hold them.
Great energy at the Mainstage
